Plumbing Website Design: What to Include and Skip

Google’s published threshold for a good mobile page load is a Largest Contentful Paint of 2.5 seconds or less, and a customer with water on the floor is unlikely to wait much longer than that for a plumber’s site to appear. Plumbing website design is mostly the discipline of removing everything that slows down one action: the call.

Plumbing is an emergency trade with a large scheduled side. The same site has to serve a person at midnight with a burst pipe and a homeowner planning a water heater replacement next month. The first wants a phone number. The second wants proof, a price range and an easy way to book. A good site serves both, and it belongs to you.

Plumbing website design should make calling you the fastest thing on the page: a tap-to-call number on every screen, accurate emergency hours, one page per service such as drain cleaning and water heaters, real technician photos, and fast mobile loading. Build it on a site and domain you own, not one an agency can take away.

What to Include

A tap-to-call number on every screen

Put the number in the header and as a sticky button on mobile. Make it a real tap-to-call link, not plain text. If you have after-hours service, say so right next to it, and make sure the number actually gets answered or forwarded. A site that advertises 24/7 service and sends calls to voicemail does damage.

Accurate hours, everywhere

Your website, your Google Business Profile and your directories should all say the same thing. Mismatched hours send customers to the competitor whose listing is correct.

One page per service

A single services page cannot rank for everything. Build a separate page for each job you want.

PageThe search it targetsInclude
Drain cleaningClogs and backupsMethods you use, response time, price factors
Water heater repair and replacementFailed or aging heatersTank vs tankless, process, range of cost, warranty handling
Sewer line repairSerious, high-ticket problemsCamera inspection, repair options, what affects price
Leak detectionHidden leaksHow you find them, how you protect the property
RepipingAging pipesWhen it is needed, how long it takes
Emergency plumbingUrgent searchesHours, response area, what happens when you call

Each page should have real detail, a price range with the variables that move it, and photos of your own work. Generic copy such as “we provide quality service” does not rank and does not persuade.

Real faces and real trucks

People are letting a stranger into their home. Photos of your actual technicians in uniform, your branded vehicles and finished jobs build trust that no stock image can. Add first names and years of experience where you can.

License, insurance and service area

State your license number where required, confirm you are insured, and list the cities you serve, with a page for each of the main ones. Be honest about reach. Listing a city you do not serve invites bad calls.

Reviews you own

Show reviews from your own Google Business Profile on the site. They stay with you whatever happens to the website, and they close the homeowner comparing three plumbers.

Serve the emergency call and the planned job

Plumbing sites usually fail one of these two visitors. The emergency visitor needs the number, the hours and a clear promise about response. The planned visitor, such as someone replacing an aging water heater next month, wants a price range, an explanation of options and an easy way to request a visit. Put the call button first, then give planned jobs their own pages with a request form that does not feel like an emergency line. Offer financing or maintenance plan information only if you actually provide it, and describe the terms plainly.

Make It Fast

Google’s published thresholds for a good experience are Largest Contentful Paint of 2.5 seconds or less, Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less, and Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less. Test any page free with PageSpeed Insights. The most common problems on plumber sites are oversized images, sliders and too many plugins. See our guide to website speed for contractors.

Track What the Site Produces

A website with no call tracking cannot tell you whether the phone rang because of Google, your profile or a referral. Set up call tracking and form tracking so you can see which source produced each call, and track booked jobs, not just clicks. From our Black tier you also get the Growth Hub CRM, so every tracked lead is visible to you in real time.

You Can Build This Yourself

The basics are within reach using a quality platform. Our estimate is 20 to 40 hours for a first version, then a few hours a month. If you would rather have it built, Contractor Bear builds custom plumbing websites as part of our Black tier at $1,500/mo, with hosting at $49/mo once live. The site and the domain are yours to keep. Not rented. Yours.

Ownership: Check Before You Sign

Ask any provider these questions in writing.

QuestionGood answer
Whose name is the domain registered in?Yours
Can I take the site with me if I leave?Yes, content and files included
Who holds hosting and analytics accounts? You are the owner or admin
Who owns the photos and written content? You do

A site you cannot take with you is a rented one. Our guide to why contractor websites fail covers more of what goes wrong, and our website features guide has the wider checklist.

What a Website Cannot Do Alone

A great site needs a complete Google Business Profile, steady reviews and pages that earn rankings over time. Expect organic rankings to take 4 to 6 months to compound meaningfully, which is our estimate, not a Google figure. Paid search can add leads sooner, but it stops when the budget does. See our pages on plumber SEO and plumber leads for how the pieces fit together.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should a plumbing website include?

A tap-to-call number on every page, accurate hours, a page for each main service, real technician and truck photos, license and insurance details, your service area, reviews and a short contact form. Add price ranges with the factors that move them. Skip anything that slows the page or hides the phone number.

How much does plumbing website design cost?

Prices vary widely between subscription builders and custom builds, so check current pricing and what you keep if you cancel. With Contractor Bear, the custom website is free from the Black tier at $1,500/mo, with hosting at $49/mo once it is live, and the site and domain are yours.

Should a plumber use a website builder or a custom site?

A builder can work for a basic presence. If search is a main lead source, you will want separate service and city pages, fast loading, schema markup and call tracking, and some builders restrict those. Whichever you pick, confirm you can export the site and that the domain is in your name.

How long before a new plumbing site gets calls?

Your Google Business Profile can show movement within 30 to 60 days. Organic rankings for new pages typically take 4 to 6 months to compound, longer in competitive metros. Paid search is faster but stops when the budget does. Be wary of promises of top rankings in weeks.

The Short Version

Build a fast, phone-first site with a page for every service, real faces, accurate hours and tracking you can see. Then check that the domain and the site are yours.

If you want a team to build it, see our pricing. Plans start at $500/mo, the custom website is free from the Black tier, and the site and domain are yours to keep. You own it. For more, see our contractor websites hub.
